Mike Vallance joined HSBC in June 2022 as Managing Director and Global Head Transaction Banking. Within this role, his responsibilities include; Global strategy, oversight and direction of Current Accounts and Savings; executing the roadmap for domestic and international cross currency payments and transactional FX, Global mobile payment journeys, Global Debit Card products and leadership and commercialisation of the Bank’s market leading Global Money proposition.
Mike brings a deep knowledge and expertise in Payments and Transaction Banking from his career experience at Barclays, Citi and Santander. He has also worked within the Fintech and Payments Consulting domains.
At Barclays, he progressed to Managing Director, holding Consumer and Corporate banking origination, innovation and product management roles in payables and receivables, liquidity and liabilities, commercial cards and merchant acquiring & e-commerce services.
He joined Citi initially as Head of Business Development EMEA Region for Treasury and Trade Solutions, originating and commercialising partnerships, M&A transactions and divestitures in the Transaction Banking domain across 53 markets and then moved to Dublin, Ireland and was appointed Managing Director, Global Business Head, WorldLink Payments services, Citi's market leading cross currency payments and transactional FX service operating across 140 countries.
He was then recruited into Santander UK Corporate and Commercial Banking as Head of Transaction Banking. During this time, he led the transformation of the Bank's Corporate and Commercial Banking Transaction Services range, launched a new Digital Banking channel for UK clients trading internationally, introduced direct API connection payment services and embedded the Transactional Banking proposition and digital payments channels within the Bank's wider International Trade and Digital Ecosystem. Most recently he led the execution of the UK services for Corporate clients of Grupo Santander's Fintech company, PAGO NXT, including roll out and commercialisation of SWIFT GPI Tracker, Payments and Channel services.
Mike holds an MBA with Distinction from Bayes Business School, London.
